yeah.. time is drawing near. my current rig (excluding the vid card) is nearing 4 years old.. and it has done a great job and still does, still plays every game out with ease. it was a great build but time for upgrade is here.
i think i did make a mistake with my recent vid card purchase. when i bought it i had planned on eventually getting a widescreen 19" monitor (1440x900) to replace the monitor i was using and had been using nearly 6 years lol (17" 1280x1024 lcd monitor that cost $$ back when i got it!). the problem is.. when i went shopping for monitors the prices were so good on a 23" 1920x1080 monitor that i couldnt pass it up. my vid card can play games there fine but doesnt dominate it.. part of that is my older cpu/architexture as well holding back the card a little.
now I'm looking at the Intel SB (sandybridge) 2500k as likely my next cpu. I probably wont upgrade till summer but the planning stage is here. Ivy Bridge (intel's next chip which is just sandy bridge with a die shrink) and Bulldozer (AMD's next chip) should be out by then so I can compare first.
I love building my own computer. Problem is that my other major hobby is damned expensive too! (golf!) Lol. I'm all set on clubs though. Well.. mostly.. I do need to find a nice 3-wood or 5-wood. I dont even carry one in the bag right now.
