Hey,

I want to upgrade my computer as I am only getting like 10 FPS in BFBC2 (no wonder I've been sucking at it). Anyone have suggestions:

I think this link will show my motherboard:

Could I drop this into it?

I haven't had the time to look at this yet Zee but I will this weekend and let you know. I am stuck at work and we have plans tonight.

oh no big deal fire, appreciate any insight you have. I may end up just doing a massive overhaul of an old Dell dimension 4700 I have laying here (basically just using the case). So I've been trying to read up on how to build a comp. If I can just drop a new processor in this current one, I may just do that and leave that Dell on the side as a project that I slowly work on and learn from.

Alright, I am not going to drop a new processor in that HP I have...although I wouldn't mind knowing if I could just as a learning tool.

I am going to revamp my old Dell dimension 4100 (I see I wrote 4700 before, I don't know which one it is and I am at my office so I can't look). Anyway thinking of this:

Looking at something along these lines (though I still have to make sure the vid card would work with the mobo, I'm just browsing newegg at this time:

Monitor:

and the Windows 7 Home OS

Thinking at the end of the month I will get the guts of the PC and have a July 4th weekend computer building experience.

good core system brother. let me know how that 5770 runs in bc2. i've been eyeing it or the 5850 for my next upgrade but havent pulled the trigger yet. was hoping the 5850 would drop in price when the new nvidia cards came out but that hasnt been the case Sad

I should power it up tonight, actually the vid card is the last thing I need to put in prior to firing up the beast. It just got too late last night and I get up at 4:45am so I had to be responsible and go to bed. The 5770 looks decent in benchmark reviews.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

For the price, I couldn't turn it down. In the future I may crossfire that card if I need to. I will let you know how BFBC2 plays on it, my old rig with integrated vid card only got 10 fps in the heat of battle hence I haven't really played much.

holy shit, it freaking worked....I built it, turned it on and it didn't blow up. Everything is running great. I am downloading my games off of steam so that will take about 2342 days. Anyway, its awesome, will post some pics in a couple days.

Here she is, the LED lights in the case change color so I took the shots at 3 of the different colors. You can also lock it in at any color you want.

Just under $1000, that includes monitor and Windows 7 which was like $230 in itself.

hmmm you know I think it is the TGA forums, hadn't noticed it before but it does look pretty dark but I don't think it is that dark normally. Think that might be a camera artifact.

I am loving it, the only knock I do have on it is that the fan on it gets a little loud when its loaded...I only hear it once I take the headphones off, the temp stays cool though so the fan is doing its job its just a little louder than I am use to but I've never had a decent vid card before.

oh RP, just check to see if you need to upgrade your power supply first. Not sure what you have but if it was just a pre built...DELL or something like that, you most likely would need a bigger PSU. From what I recall, if you are above 500W right now you should be good. I think I have 650W because the price wasn't much different when I was building.

Yeah I have a Dell XPS system. I ordered the card and it should be here tomorrow. I will try it with the PSU that I have, the specs said 450W Min. I guess we will see!

i havent gamed in a month. my vid card died. i can still kinda see my screen but it's all squiggly lines thru it.

i have been researching a ton. was so close to getting my 5770 this week but i've decided to wait just a bit more. apparently the 6xxx series of cards are coming out soon.. with the 6770 dropping on the 19th of this month. we'll see. also pending price adjustments i may consider the nvidia 460 1gb version.

just get the 5770 unless you think that price will drop with the 6xxx series coming out soon. If your price range is ~$150ish you can't go wrong with it.

i'm glad i waited. the 6xxx series came out today. i ordered a 6850 for $179 today and it's running near a good deal faster than the 5770 and almost up to 5850 speeds for a much better price than the 5850 has ever been!

dont get confused by the naming though. the 6850 is not the next 5850.. amd changed all the naming.

5xxx series: 5750/5770/5830 = mid grade, 5850/5870 = high end, 5970 = extreme end
6xxx series: 6850/6870 = mid grade, 69xx = high end, ???(supposedly 6990) = extreme end

price point is the best comparison and 179 is sweeet! hope it arrives monday. tuesday more likely though.
